Douglas St Patricks Day Parade 2013

The Douglas GAA Street Leagues recently participated in the Douglas Community Associations St Patricks Day parade.

It was a fantastic day, the weather held out and great crowds gather on the streets to see an array of sporting clubs, community organisations and fancy cars. There were stalls in the community park with all kinds of cakes, burgers, ice creams and lots more. There was a carousel for the smaller kids and some pony rides too.

In conjuntion with the Douglas Ladies Football Club, Douglas Camogie Club and Douglas GAA Street leagues, a novelty event was held in the park. We set up a shootout challenge. 3 shots to get the football or the sliotar through the tyre. Easter Eggs were on offer for those sharp shooters who were successful. It proved to be a very popular attraction on the day with streams of boys and girls queuing up to try their luck.

The event was a fundraiser with monies going to the Douglas Community Association to support their Meals On Wheels service for the elderly folk in our community. Thanks to peoples eagerness (and generosity) we raised a significant amount which will be handed over in the coming week.

Thanks to everyone who supported our event also the parade. lets hope it is the first of many.

Thank you
